THE COMEDY OF ERRORS - CANTONESE

Venue: Studio 303, The University of Hong Kong

Dates: March 15, 2018

After a hugely successful outing with Love's Labour's Lost (2017), HKSTG returns with a double dose of comedic fun with The Comedy of Errors, albeit whilst exploring the group's freshest avenue of performance adaption by staging the play in Cantonese, as one half of the group's first Bilingual Project.
Showcasing Shakespeare's penchant for mistaken identities, as well as the hilarious mishaps that spring from them, the Comedy of Errors follows two sets of twins (on one side - Antipholus & Dromio of Syracuse; and on the other - Antipholus & Dromio of Ephesus) who, initially separated at birth, inadvertently disrupt each others lives when they find themselves in the same city of Ephesus, encountering each other's friends and families. Pandemonium ensues as each twin leads the audience through multiple confusing incidences of mistaken identity, leading to the brink of a marriage, more than a few beatings and many instances of laughter.
Contextualised in the traditional Elizabethan setting but performed in Hong Kong's local tongue, HKSTG's The Comedy of Errors furthers the boundaries of language and literature. Come and enjoy a night of Shakespearean chaos in Cantonese!
